Job Title: Regulatory Affairs Specialist
Vorzimer Masserman Fertility & Law Center (VM), formed in 1994 and managed by senior shareholders Andrew Vorzimer and Dean Masserman, is a boutique law firm with a national presence and international reputation as the go-to reproductive law firm. VM is based in the Warner Center business district of Woodland Hills, California with satellite offices in Encino, California and Annapolis, Maryland. Our founders, who collectively offer 50 years of litigation and transactional experience to their clients, oversee a dynamic group of attorneys and legal professionals who have extensive experience in the firm’s major areas of practice including assisted reproduction, surrogacy, egg and sperm donation, and family law.
Third party reproduction, also referred to as family building, includes surrogacy, egg donation and embryo donation, and is a true specialty requiring intimate knowledge of applicable local laws, industry guidelines, insurance, immigration, probate and family law. We have represented over two thousand couples from more than thirty-five countries throughout the world, including China where 35% of our clients come from, who have used surrogacy and/or egg donation to experience the joys of parenthood.
To better serve our clients from China seeking our assisted reproductive legal services, our company seeks the professional services of a Regulatory Affairs Specialist. The Regulatory Affairs Specialist will research on foreign laws governing reproductive services and cross-border surrogacy. He or she will identify critical issues under Chinese law facing clients, including questions of citizenship, household registration, healthcare, etc., and point clients to appropriate resources and legal professionals for assistance. Similarly, the Regulatory Affairs Specialist will also perform research on U.S. state law governing assisted reproduction, surrogacy contracts, and legal parentage to keep clients apprised of key issues and recommend ways to protect and secure their rights as intended parents.
The hired individual will be responsible for the following duties:
· Conduct legal and regulatory research to identify key issues facing clients in the US and in China in the area of surrogacy and reproductive services;
· Review U.S. professional and ethical rules to ensure that our firm’s services comply with U.S. laws and regulations;
· Compile and maintain a regulatory documentation database for assisted reproduction in the U.S. and China;
· Interpret legal and regulatory changes relating to assisted reproduction in the U.S. and China and recommend changes to firm procedures in response to the changes;
· Identify relevant guidance documents, international laws, and regulations and provide interpretive assistance for Chinese clients;
· Obtain and distribute updated information regarding domestic or international laws, guidelines, or standards;
· Coordinate the efforts of the firm’s attorneys and other staff on preparation of regulatory and legal documents;
· Write or updated standard operating procedures, work instructions, and policies;
· Research and review industry reports and maintain a professional network to stay informed of current industry developments affecting our firm’s compliance needs.
· Bachelor’s degree in legal studies, law, or related;
· 2 years of legal work experience involving Chinese law, familiar with China’s civil law;
· Excellent legal research and problem-solving skills
